The basic functions in KemRisk has no language. Everything to be presented are primarily calculated as codes. These codes are automatically looked up by the program and will be output in the desired language. At present KemRisk can express the codes in English, German, French, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish. More languages are in progress.
You can use KemRisk in one language and (in case you have that license) produce MSDSs in another.
Especially importers often have an MSDS in one language and want it to be translated into another. Considering the rapid change in legislation this is a bad idea. The original MSDS (especially if originating from countries outside the European Union) is seldomly updated according to the latest European legislation, and simple translation means that these errors are conserved.
With KemRisk, it takes only about twelve minutes to input the appropriate key data. KemRisk then calculates a new MSDS using updated versions of both the database and the algorithms. Then, when you are satisfied with the result, you can order KemRisk to make the same MSDS in another language. This takes only three minutes!
The legislation is rapidly changing and KemRisk must continuously be updated accordingly. New and updated phrases are primarily done in English and Swedish. For practical reasons, immediate translation into all other languages is impossible and, in the meantime the phrase is replaced by English.
Correct translation is important and needs a special skill. Primarily all expressions shall obey to the nomenclature stated by the official translation of the common European regulations, e.g. REACH. The translator must also be familiar with the physical, chemical, toxicological and environmental nomenclature. Furthermore, everything shall be culturally correct. These demands are seldomly found by one single person. Therefore the best result is achieved if the translation is made as a team-work.
